The first town the fog lets go in the morning. The houseboat people wave at you whether they know you or not. It is the kind of place where a heron is a neighbor and an otter is the news. The hills come straight down to the water and the houses cling on like they were drawn there. Otis Redding sat on a dock here and we have been sitting on it ever since. The bridge is loud. The town is not.
